Caring For Your Silk

What’s the best way to care for silk? 🤷🏻‍♀️
I doubt you’ll be surprised to hear that that’s a question we get asked a lot.
So we thought we’d do a page with all the top tips for keeping your silk bits beautiful so you can keep enjoying them for years to come!
Firstly it’s always best to turn the item inside out before washing.
And while you can always put all of our SilkSundae garments on a cool delicate wash in the washing machine, the best way to wash your silk is to hand wash it with shampoo.
Yes, you read that right.
Shampoo.
The structure of silk is very similar to human hair, containing 97% protein, 3% fat and wax, its also has 18 amino acids, (which is why it has such a positive effect on our skin and hair)
So shampoo your silk!
One thing silk is not good with, though, is heat….so low temperatures all round and NEVER tumble dry. It naturally dries so quickly anyway it doesn’t really need any help!
And pure silk won’t hold creases for long either, they will naturally drop out on their own ….but if you do feel the need to iron, keep the iron on the lowest setting.
And another quick tip if you feel like your silk has lost a bit of its lustre, try rinsing the garment in a vinegar solution. White vinegar removes soap residue, restores shine and softens the silk. Just add about 50ml of white vinegar to a basin of cold water and gently move the silk around in the solution to thoroughly saturate and then rinse again with cool water.
Silk is such a beautiful fabric, and is much stronger than we give it credit for, but just by following these simple tips you’ll make sure your silk stays gorgeous for a long, long time!
